Edinburgh Branch RAMC 

Chairs Report  2007 – 2008

Though our branch activities have been curtailed for the foreseeable future, we have still been active in presenting our branch profile and standard throughout the past year.

 This was done in the following manner:

 1.   November 9th 2008 – Remembrance Day Parade. The Chair & Standard Bearer plus 3 other members attended the Stone of Remembrance Cenotaph at the City Chambers. Plus members represented the branch at the Granton Church service along with members of E Sqn 205 Fld Hosp (V).

2.   November 3rd 2008 - Wreath Laying at the Garden of Rememberance Princess Street, Edinburgh.

3.   August 18th 2008 - In conjunction with the Scottish Veterans Association. Our Standard and branch members attended a Memorial Service to Dr Elsie Inglis founder of the Hospital named after her in Edinburgh. Service took place at the Dean Cemetery,Edinburgh.

4.   March 2nd 2008 -  In conjunction with the Scottish Veterans Association, the Standard and branch members attended a Tribute to Pte James B Harden “D” Company 91st New York Infantry Regiment (Union Army). Born in Sparta, Georgia USA 1845 – Died in Edinburgh 2nd March 1919, at the Piershill Cemetery, Edinburgh.   

 Our thanks should be recorded to our Standard Bearer - Mr Alan Mackay for his outstanding effort, some times in difficult weather conditions, who stood bravely with the RAMC Standard and attended all of the above activities.

Announcments:

1.  Mr Richardson is still our treasurer (acting) until a new Treasurer is appointed.  Should there be a member who is interested in assisting, please contact him on 01506 854678 or by e-mail at john.burnside@dsl.pipex.com

2.  A Memorial Service to Edinburgh born American Civil War Confederate hero Colonel Robert A. Smith will be held on 12th September 2009.  Ceremony commences at 11.00am in the Dean Cemetery (assemble in the car park at 10.30am).  The Scottish Veterans Association are proud to sponsor this event.  For further information, please contact the SVA secretary via their website at www.scottishveteransassociation.org.uk.  All RAMC members are cordially invited to attend.
