MERSEYSIDE BRANCH NEWSLETTER MARCH 2010 Dear Members, Another year comes to a close and as we look back we can be proud of the achievements the Branch has made. New members have joined and those members’ attending functions and events is also up, we had over 90 members attend the Xmas party, this was the most we’ve had for many years. We were joined by the Royal Naval Club and they have indicated that they would like to join in other functions. We held the joint A Sqn – Branch Guest night dinner in July and it proved to be a wonderful occasion, the food produced by Gilly was superb, our thanks got to all the committee for setting up and clearing the function away. A small contingent from the Branch attended the RAMC Association Annual Service at the Arboretum in Alrewas, The Annual Corps weekend took place in June and 14 members travelled down to We must say a special thanks to all those committee members who have given up their time to make sure the events are planned and go ahead, this includes our Standard Bearer John McClellan who has attended numerous occasions and also turns out at Funerals of past members. Dates for the Freedom of the City of Our Welfare officer Sue Karran has been busy throughout the year keeping in contact with those members who have fallen ill and giving comfort to those families who have suffered bereavement. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all. It was with great sadness that we heard of the deaths of two well known members of the Branch. Cisi Mackeen, the Mother of Maj Gill Mackeen, was a stalwart member of the association who was present at all the functions, she was a wonderful lady who was liked and respected by all those who knew her. Her deteriorating health had kept her away for some time and she sadly passed away in January of this year. Our thoughts and prayers are with Gill during this difficult time. Major (Rtd) Michael (Ned) Elliott TD MSCP sadly passed away in January this year. He was a member of 208 Field Hospital from 1971 to 2003 and an association member for the same period. Attached to this newsletter is an obituary written by one of his dear friends, Peter Karran. Also attached is a copy of the letter sent to our Chairman Col Peter Jackson from his wife Kate. Our Website continues to be popular and our thanks got to Kenny Whittaker for maintaining and updating it.
