The History of the Branch
The Branch was formed in August 1988 under the auspices of the late Capt. Willie Yearwood, who, at that time was the PSAO at 224 Field Ambulance. The first Chairman was Brigadier Guy Sandy” Robinson. Following his death in 1992 Capt. (R) Ted Archer became Chairman, until ill-health forced him to give up the position in 2002. Major (R) George Poole, who is also a Trustee of the RAMC Charity became Chairman untill ill-health forced him to give up the position in 2015. The current Chairman Chris.Smith (Smudge) who Served with 224 Field Ambulance RCT. The first Standard Bearer was Jack Beckett who performed the duty for 18 years until handing over to Chris Tong who had done his duty's for 9 Year's until ill-helath forced him to give uo the position in 2015, to the current Standard Bearer John McNair (Jock) who had served with 224 Field Ambulance as Staff Sargent PSI in 1986 - 89. The current paying membership is 54, of whom about half are active. There is also a supplementary list of 48 former members, who paid life rnembership under the old charter Contact is made with these persons on an annual basis, when they are always invited to re-join. Meetings are held at the TA Centre, Cobridge, on the second Tuesday of each month, with Ladies & Friends evenings being held in April, November and December. The Annual Dinner is held September and a Burns Night Supper held each January. We always have some members who attend the RAMC AGM at the NMA, Alrewas, and also members attend Corps Sunday annually.
